Semillas: Integrating Emotional Learning Through Agriculture
“Semillas” is an innovative after-school project designed for implementation in various educational centers. This initiative provides districts and schools with a unique opportunity to address emotional learning through the lens of agriculture.
In partnership with “Cultiva,” this project offers emotional, physical, cognitive, and educational benefits for kids through agriculture. “Semillas” integrates well-being into the educational environment by combining agriculture, emotional intelligence, and nutrition. With enthusiasm, our project allows students to connect directly with nature. Through planting and cultivation, we promote agricultural learning while fostering the development of emotional intelligence and awareness of healthy eating.
The project has been created to bring to schools the wellness triangle formed by agriculture, emotions, and nutrition. This presents an opportunity for our children to work directly with nature and, through it, develop emotional intelligence and an understanding of the importance of healthy eating.
Program Development:
The “Semillas” program is conducted over 6 weeks, consisting of 6 one-hour sessions, one session per week. It is designed for children aged 3 to 11 years. All materials are included in the price. The cost per child is $160 for the complete program of 6 sessions. Each session is designed to accommodate a maximum of 12 participants. The sessions are divided as follows:
- Agriculture and the Farmer: Understanding the process of personal growth as that of a product that originates in nature for emotional benefit.
- Agriculture, Emotions, and Health: The individual benefits that contact with nature brings to mental and physical health.
- From Seed to Sprout: Understanding emotions as basic needs that help us grow.
- Healthy Cooking: How the nutrients from the food we obtain contribute to physical and mental well-being.
- Microgreens: Observing the growth of our emotions and comparing it with the growth of plants.
We Are What We Eat: How to healthily nourish our mind and body.
Mission: The mission of the “Semillas” program is to develop resilience through mental, physical, spiritual, and nature awareness work.
This comprehensive approach enriches students’ knowledge and cultivates essential skills and values. By recognizing their connection to nature, students will understand that personal growth is intrinsically linked to emotional development.
We believe that “Semillas” will serve not only as an educational tool but also as a means to strengthen our school’s identity as a place where learning merges with experience and holistic well-being.
“When we internalize that ‘we are’ nature, we become aware that our personal growth comes from emotional work.”
